Island Time Headhuggers

Rita Balboni and Sue Martin became friends while being employees of Lewiscraft Corp. before it closed its doors this Spring 2006. Deciding to still keep in touch we decided to do something important for a good cause. Starting Island Time Head Huggers was it.

The Relief Society

A BIG THANK YOU must go out to the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for they have kindly handmade and donated  to us 132 hats!! Sue and I took a drive up to Qualicum to pick up the hats on Feb.25th from Mrs.Adriana Binstead who is the president of the the Relief Society. Unfortnately we could not stay long as that was the afternoon that the snow storm decided to follow us back to Nanaimo. Adriana was kind enough to include some information on the Relief Society and it is as follows.

" We belong to the oldest and largest women's organization in the world. The Relief Society was oragnized March 17th, 1842. We are united as women helping sick and the needy, educating our families and much more. Our pupose is to provide that which others need.
This organization belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. We contribute to the community in a variety of ways. At this time we choose to work on toques for cancer patients. As seniors, we have been working togther to support this great program.
We are pleased to help in this small way and will continue to make toques that will help these people who are bravely struggling to get better.
Thank you for the opportunity to give something back to our community.
Sincerely,
Adriana Binstead [ Relief Society President]
Margaret Anderson [ First Counselor]
Leigh McDonald [Second Counselor]
Elizabeth Faires [Secretary]

Thank you again to all the Ladies of the Relief Society for supporting the Island Time HeadHuggers. Hats off to you!!

Thank you's via email -2008

 Hello.
My name is Pam Lang and I am the chemotherapy and palliative care coordinator in Squamish. I received a box of your wonderful hats today, and we had fun looking through them. They certainly brought smiles to our faces and I am sure our patients will really appreciate them! I have a large basket on the table in our chemo room and it is now brimming with your colorful hats. I am so grateful for people like you guys, and all the kindness and care you express to our patients through your gifts. I know they are really touched by people's generosity. I hope all that kindness comes back to you!
Thank you so much, Pam

Hi
I just wanted to say how much it means to us that are going through chemotherapy, when we lose our hair, how nice it is to go into the Cancer Clinic and see all the beautiful hats and tougues that you all have put so much effort into.  It is really nice to have a choice of colors and styles and makes us feel so warm and loved.  I know you all make these with care, and I just wanted to pass on a big THANK YOU for caring, it means a lot to us!

Thank Yous sent via email

Hi everyone,

I wish to thank you for the Head Hugger cap I received from your group at the cancer clinic in Campbell River on Vancouver Island.   It was given to me at the right time, just as I was losing my hair.   I felt that people were staring at me and it was so nice to receive an attractive head hugging cap which made me feel more normal and part of mainstream society.   I especially wish to thank Sue Anderson, who made this cap.   Thank you again.   Dorothy Blake.

Hi
I don't know if this e-mail address is still good or if you gals are still in "business", but wanted to share with you how great it was to find some of your hats at St. Mary's hospital in Sechelt. I'm expecting to lose my hair next week and couldn't find any soft hats in stores here, so was debating making the long trip to Vancouver just to have something available when I start looking scruffy - what a treat when they pulled out your hats! I have 3 lovely ones now which I know I'll use, then pass on to others here. What a great idea you had! Two were made by Wilma McCallum (I especially like the one with the pink fringe), the other didn't have a name attached.
Sincerely
Many thanks!

2008 Christmas Newsletter

Seasons  Greetings

So sorry this letter comes to you later than I’d hoped.

2008 was a very busy year. We sent out 1820 hats to 23 hospitals. Out of that number 560 went directly to the BC Children’s Hospital. If possible we could use more men’s and youth hats, darker colors suit them best.

Sue and I appreciate all the hard work that is put into each of these hats and Thank- you very much. It’s your caring hands and warm hearts that make this group a success.

Included are some Thank-you letters sent to us via the internet. I also get many phone calls Thanking all of you for the beautiful hats that you made.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Happy Knitting

from Rita Balboni  & Sue Martin
